The 2007-8 Season of the Allstar UK sponsored Youth Development Series was our inaugural year - but it certainly packed in a lot of fencing for those who took part.

At the YDS round 3 event a couple of people commented on how intensive the day was - and that got us thinking - "Just how much fencing do we fit into a YDS day"?

Well, we've slaved over a hot slide rule (kids - ask your folks...) to work it all out.

The numbers are below and they are pretty staggering.

Remember that we usually start at 9:30 for foil and epee each day, and 1:30 for sabre (and in Round 3 it was an hour later for the morning start cos we're old and like to have a lie in now and again...).

We have never finished a comp later than 5:30pm - and we are normally off site by 6:15-6:30ish on the Sunday evening - often earlier.

  • In Round 1 we had a total of 92 fencers - over the two days they fenced 325 poule fights and 100 DE fights.

  • In Round 2 we had a total of 66 fencers - over the two days they fenced 246 poule fights and 72 DE fights.

  • In Round 3 we had a total of 67 fencers - over the two days they fenced 371 poule fights and 84 DE fights.

  • In Round 4 we had a total of 72 fencers - over the two days they fenced 272 poule fights and 72 DE fights.

So - in year one of the Allstar UK YDS - we had 297 competitive fencers, in 1225 poule bouts and 328 DE fights in about 60 hours of fencing!!!

We reckon that makes the YDS the most compressed day's of fencing comps there are... anywhere... period.

Got your entry in for Round 1 of the Allstar UK YDS 2008/9 yet?
